Diabetes Prevention Class July 12

Class Designed to Prevent Diabetes Before It Starts

Spectrum Health Reed City Hospital now offers low cost preventative diabetes classes.  This new approach to preventive health care uses registered nurses and dieticians who are certified diabetes educators to teach patients simple yet effective methods to stop diabetes before it happens.

The two hour session focuses on healthy eating, weight loss and tips for getting active – all important pieces of diabetes prevention.  Spectrum Health Reed City Hospital is making the class affordable since most insurance companies do not pay for preventative care. The cost is only $20.

How do you know if you are at risk for developing diabetes?  Has your doctor told you that you have pre-diabetes?  Ask yourself if you meet any of these pre-diabetes criteria:

  • Over the age of 45
  • You have a parent, brother or sister with diabetes
  • African-American, Hispanic or Native American ethnicity
  • Overweight
  • Too little physical activity
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Women – did you have a baby that weighed more than 9 lbs. at birth?

If you want to take charge of your health, consider this informative class by calling 231.832.6636 to register.  The class will take place from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on July 12 in the Spectrum Health Occupational Health Services building conference rooms at 219 E. Church Street, Reed City.  Registration deadline is July 10.
