Kick-off Race Season with the 2017 Wheatlake Festival of Races

March 8, 2107 – BIG RAPIDS & REED CITY, MICH: Spectrum Health Big Rapids and Reed City Hospitals are calling all local runners and walkers to register for the 2017 Annual Wheatlake Festival of Races. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2017.

Race details are as follows:

  • Race Headquarters and Bussing – Registration and bussing to start lines will be held at the Bandshell behind Big Rapids Middle School.
  • Half Marathon – 13.1 mile course from the Reed City Depot to the Bandshell behind Big Rapids Middle School. Registration at 6 a.m. Race begins at 8 a.m.
    • $70 before April 14, 2017
    • $80 after April 14, 2017
  • 10K Run – *NEW* in 2017, 2 mile course from Paris Park to the Bandshell behind Big Rapids Middle School. Registration at 6 a.m. Race begins at 8 a.m.
    • $40 before April 14, 2017
    • $50 after April 14, 2017
  • 5K Run & Wellness Walk – 3.1 mile course from Hemlock Park to the Bandshell behind Big Rapids Middle School. Registration at 8 a.m. Race begins at 9 a.m.
    • $25 before April 14, 2017 & $30 after April 14, 2017 for 5K Run
    • $15 before April 14, 2017 & $20 after April 14, 2017 for Wellness Walk
  • Kids Dash – Children 12 and under can run the field at Big Rapids Middle School. Registration at 10 a.m. Dash begins at 10:30 a.m.
    • $1 (please bring the day of the event)
  • Awards Ceremony – Held at 10:40 a.m. at the Bandshell behind Big Rapids Middle School

Those who register before April 14, 2017, will receive a reduced registration fee and are guaranteed a shirt and goody bag.

Free skin cancer screenings will be provided at the Bandshell from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on the day of the event.

Race proceeds will benefit the Susan P. Wheatlake Cancer and Wellness Fund, an endowment of the Spectrum Health Foundation Big Rapids and Reed City Hospitals. The fund provides resources and materials for use by patients and families facing cancer in our region.
