NMTRC is now “Beat Childhood Cancer”

New Name Reflects Multi-Disease Approach and Unification with Beat Nb Cancer Foundation

GRAND RAPIDS / TAMPA / BOSTON (June 20, 2017) – The Neuroblastoma Medulloblastoma Translational Research Consortium (NMTRC) today announced its name change to “Beat Childhood Cancer,” effective immediately. Childhood cancer advocates, patients and their families will find no change in the mission and passion of the organization toward beating childhood cancer and obtaining access to information on clinical trials. The program’s clinical trials headquarters and research laboratory will remain housed in Spectrum Health’s Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

“We will continue to grow our research under the ‘Beat Childhood Cancer’ name, and are proud to officially announce Beat Nb as the lead for the foundation side of our operations” said Dr. Giselle Sholler, chair of Beat Childhood Cancer, formerly NMTRC. “There is a constant urgency to our work, and Beat Nb has been dedicated to beating kids cancer since the beginning, helping to support and shape our research group. Our mission is our name now, and we are proud to continue working on behalf of our kids.”

Neuroblastoma childhood cancer remains the primary research focus for Beat Childhood Cancer, but the new name reflects the multiple solid mass cancers affected by the research. Dell Computer’s long support through the Dell Precision Medicine Program has expanded our reach to any incurable solid-mass childhood cancers. With Dell’s collaboration this program has brought genomic medicine to pediatric cancers.

The NMTRC name has been used for the past ten years by the growing research consortium focused on beating childhood cancers (like neuroblastoma) through clinical trials and research. The group was founded by Dr. Giselle Sholler with support from Genevieve Bergendahl. It has grown through the collaboration with Patrick Lacey, founder of the Beat Nb Cancer Foundation.

“We helped to fund the NMTRC, and are proud to see the results,” said Kyle Matthews, Executive Director of Beat Nb Cancer Foundation. “We do this work so families never have to know the depth of hurt from losing a son or daughter to cancer.”

Along with the name change, the organization will adopt the Beat Childhood Cancer brand identity with a new logo and website: https://beatcc.org. All future activity will be conducted under the new name. This move is also designed to better reflect the relationship between the NMTRC and Beat Nb Cancer Foundation, the research program’s foundation side.
