Spectrum Health Creates System Leadership Role

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., April 14, 2017 – Richard C. Breon, President & CEO of Spectrum Health announced today that Tina Freese Decker has been named executive vice president and chief operating officer of Spectrum Health. In this new position, she will have responsibility for advancing the strategy and leading operations of the organization, including Spectrum Health Hospital Group, Spectrum Health Medical Group, Human Resources and Information Services.

Freese Decker served as president, Spectrum Health Hospital Group since July of 2014. She joined Spectrum Health in 2002 as a postgraduate fellow in health care administration. In 2003, she became director, system strategic planning and development. In 2006, she was promoted to vice president, system strategic planning and development and also became the executive director of the Spectrum Health Regional Hospital Network. In 2011, she was named president, Spectrum Health United and Kelsey hospitals, and in 2013 was named senior vice president/chief strategy officer.

In other changes, Seth Wolk, MD, will now be exclusively dedicated to his role as Chief Medical Officer of the health system. Since March of 2014, Dr. Wolk has been serving as president, Spectrum Health Medical Group and in July of that year took on the added responsibility of our system CMO.

Doug Apple, MD, will serve as interim president of Spectrum Health Medical Group and Gwen Sandefur will serve as interim president of Spectrum Health Hospital Group. Both were serving in executive roles within those business entities. They will report to Freese Decker as will leaders of other corporate and operational units within the system.

These changes will be effective April 24, 2017.
