Spectrum Health Kelsey Hospital Named iVantage HEALTHSTRONG’ Top 100 Critical Access Hospital

Spectrum Health Kelsey Hospital in Lakeview, Michigan was recently named one of the iVantage HEALTHSTRONG Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals (CAHs) in the United States. Kelsey Hospital was one of only three hospitals in Michigan to receive the award, and the only hospital in Michigan to receive it two years in a row.

“It is the expertise and compassion of our providers and employees that results in accolades like this,” said Brian Brasser, president, Kelsey Hospital. “We are proud to provide exceptional care to our community.”   Spectrum Health Kelsey Hospital scored in the top 100 of Critical Access Hospitals on the iVantage Hospital Strength INDEX™. The INDEX is the industry’s most comprehensive rating of US acute care hospitals, and the only one to include the country’s 1,300 CAHs. The results recognize that the Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals provide a safety net to communities across rural America.

“Patients are at the center of everything we do,” says Dr. Lory Read, Lakeview Family Medicine. “They are the most important member of their health care team. As part of their team, we as providers are dedicated to connect with each patient, listen to their concerns and encourage them in their journey.”

“Excellent care is given with empathy, understanding and compassion,” agrees Denise Brock, director of nursing, Kelsey Hospital. “We place a high value on the small acts of kindness that make the biggest difference in the lives we touch each day.”

“Rural healthcare deserves the same performance analysis as all provider performance. It plays a vital role for communities across America, serving nearly 80 million people,” said John Morrow, executive vice president of iVantage Health Analytics. According to iVantage, the services provided in rural America are similar to those needed in any major metropolitan area, yet the differences in volumes and economic resources make for little benefit from scale. These top 100 Critical Access Hospitals exhibit a focused concern for their community benefits and needs, regardless of scale, reimbursement and people’s ability to pay.
