Spectrum Health Chief of Hematology/Oncology Recognized by the Association for Clinical Oncology

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., April 14, 2022 – The Association for Clinical Oncology (ASCO) has named Anas Al-Janadi, MD, VP department chief of hematology/oncology at Spectrum Health Cancer Center, a 2021 Advocacy Champion. The announcement was made during the Association’s 2022 Advocacy Summit in April.

“ASCO is immensely grateful for the work of this year’s Advocacy Champions. These individuals’ tireless efforts are crucial to achieving positive change for the cancer community,” said Julie Vose, FASCO, MBA, MD, chair of ASCO’s Government Relations Committee. “Their success is particularly apparent in the funding increases for the National Institutes of Health and the National Cancer Institute in the 2022 federal budget. Through our advocates’ commitment to educating our lawmakers, we move closer to high-quality and equitable care for all people with cancer.”

The Advocacy Champions designation is given to ASCO volunteers who have made meaningful contributions to ASCO’s advocacy activities throughout the year to ensure that every patient with cancer has access to high-quality, high-value cancer care, no matter who they are or where they live. Dr. Al-Janadi was recognized for his efforts to ensure access to quality cancer care, improve telehealth availability, increase access to clinical trials, and support increase in cancer research funding for NIH and NCI.
