Spectrum Health First in West Michigan to Debut New Single Port da Vinci Robot Technology

The minimally invasive procedure allows patients to be back to their lives faster with less recovery time

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., May 19, 2022 –Spectrum Health became the first health system in West Michigan to debut new minimally invasive robotic technology helping patients get back to their lives faster. The da Vinci Single Port (SP) allows surgeons to perform minimally invasive urologic and ENT procedures through one incision.

Surgeries that previously required an extended hospital stay are now able to be done as outpatient procedures. With the SP, patients will have a reduced hospital stay and will experience a faster recovery.

While other procedures are more invasive, the da Vinci SP only requires one small incision, resulting in less blood loss, less scaring and reduced risk of infection. Surgery is less painful, meaning less pain medications are needed and allows patients to recover and get back to their lives faster.

Spectrum Health has been investing in robotic assisted surgery among many specialties since 2006 with a goal to help patients reduce their cost of care and improve outcomes.
