Spectrum Health to Open Convenient Care Walk-In Clinic in Reed City

No doctor? No appointment? No problem.

REED CITY, Mich., May 22, 2017 – Spectrum Health Reed City Hospital will open a Convenient Care Walk-in Clinic where those who feel ill or have minor injuries–but don’t require emergency care–can get immediate attention without an appointment.

The Convenient Care Walk-In Clinic will be located within the Spectrum Health Reed City Hospital campus at 300 N. Patterson in Reed City, and will be housed in the same office as family practice, general surgery and urology. The clinic will officially open on May 30.

The clinic will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“The walk-in clinic provides our community an affordable way to receive immediate care when patients aren’t able to see their doctor,” said Mary Kay VanDriel, president of Spectrum Health Big Rapids and Reed City Hospitals. “This reduces wait times, and helps patients avoid higher co-pays that come with an emergency room visit.”

The new Convenient Care Walk-In Clinic is designed to assist existing patients, new patients and visiting patients, regardless of insurance status and primary care provider. The clinic will provide follow-up with each patient’s primary care physician, or offer the opportunity to begin primary care services with Spectrum Health.

“Our goal is to identify and meet our community’s health needs, and access to medical care is at the top of that list,” VanDriel said. “Convenient Care is one of our primary initiatives to address convenient access to care for patients in our community.”

The walk-in clinic will improve access in three significant ways:

Adding another experienced medical provider to the hospital’s medical staff.
Providing an office where people can get immediate medical care without an appointment for low acuity health needs.
Seeing all patients, regardless of their primary care provider or insurance status, including visitors and tourists.

The Convenient Care Walk-In clinic will be staffed by nurse practitioners, Sunday Jennette, AGPCNP-BC, and Amelia Albachten, FNP.

“We were very fortunate to attract these skilled advanced practice providers to provide care at the walk-in clinic,” announced Thomas Wright, DO, Division Chief, Regions Spectrum Health Medical Group. “They will see patients for needs such as rashes, coughs, congestion, flu-like symptoms, sore throats, and minor infections or injuries. If the need is more severe, our emergency department is on site and patients can be easily and quickly transferred.”
