GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN, July 24, 2017Select Medical Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Select Medical Holdings Corporation (NYSE: SEM), and Spectrum Health, a not-for-profit health system, today celebrated the upcoming opening of a long-term acute care hospital (LTACH) within Spectrum Health Blodgett Hospital in East Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Under the joint venture, announced in April 2017, Spectrum Health Special Care Hospital on Fuller Avenue will move to Spectrum Health Blodgett Hospital and be re-named Select Specialty Hospital – Spectrum Health.

The new location will enable patients in a Spectrum Health acute care setting to transfer to the next level of care within the hospital system, thus eliminating the need to be transported elsewhere to receive a higher level of care, diagnostics or services.  The partnership will also allow for expedited placement of LTACH patients from the intensive care unit (ICU) which will increase ICU bed availability at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital.

“Select Medical and Spectrum Health share a common mission to deliver an exceptional patient care experience,” said Brian Davis, president of the LTACH division at Select Medical. “We look forward to working together to provide the highest quality of long-term acute care in the greater Grand Rapids region.”

“We are extremely pleased to team up with Select Medical to offer this long-term acute care option in Grand Rapids,” said Tina Freese Decker, executive vice president, chief operating officer, Spectrum Health. “Spectrum Health has a long history of providing high-quality, compassionate and personalized patient care. This new partner and new location expresses our commitment to positively impact the communities we serve.”

Patients currently in Spectrum Health Special Care Hospital, the existing 17-bed licensed LTACH operated by Spectrum Health at its 750 Fuller Avenue location, will be transferred  to the new Select Specialty Hospital – Spectrum Health within Blodgett Hospital. The expanded 36-bed LTACH will also begin admitting new patients on August 1, 2017.

Select Medical operates 11 LTACHs in Michigan, and more than 100 nationwide. Services provided at LTACHs include daily physician visits, 24-hour nursing care, 24-hour respiratory staff, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy.
