Child Passenger Safety Program Protects Area Children

Spectrum Health United Lifestyles provides car seats and education.

GREENVILLE, Mich., February 21, 2022 – Hundreds of area children are riding safely in vehicles thanks to the continued work of the Spectrum Health United Lifestyles Child Passenger Safety Program.

The program is made possible by a grant from the Greenville Area Community Foundation, which has supported the program since 2017.

In 2021, 112 free or discounted car seats were given to families along with education about car seat safety.

Families who receive Medicaid are eligible to receive free car seats from the Maternal Infant Health Program, while discounted car seats are provided for families with economic hardships.

“The collaboration between the Greenville Area Community Foundation (GACF) and Spectrum Health United Lifestyles (SHUL) investing in community safety, continues to impact the overall quality of life for families in Montcalm County and surrounding areas,” said Kayla Johns, program supervisor. “This program protects our most vulnerable citizens and can save lives.”

The program offers safety education facilitated by certified technicians to ensure proper selection, installation and use of car seats.

“Providing new car seats helps reduce the number of second-hand seats that do not have a known history and those that are more than six years old,” Johns said. “We’re so thankful for the community foundation’s continued support of this important program.”
