Spectrum Health Names Clinical Leaders for Lemmen-Holton Cancer Pavilion
Spectrum Health has announced the physician leadership team that will guide patient care and treatment at the Lemmen-Holton Cancer Pavilion, slated to open in June 2008.
Several clinical program directors have been named as leaders of specialty areas. These directors concentrate on cancers in specific areas. They are:
- Mathew H. Chung, MD, Clinical Director, Surgical Oncology, Michigan Medical, PC
- Richard J. Kahnoski, MD, Clinical Director, Urology Oncology, Michigan Medical, PC
- Martin A. Luchtefeld, MD, Clinical Director, Gastroenterology Oncology, Michigan Medical, PC
- Jane Pettinga, MD, Clinical Director, Breast Oncology, Academic Surgical Associates, PLLC
- Glenn M. VanOtteren, MD, Clinical Director, Pulmonary Oncology, Michigan Medical, PC
Oncologists Alan Campbell, MD and Mark Campbell, MD continue to lead the physician teams. Alan Campbell, MD is medical director, Spectrum Health Oncology Program and Mark Campbell, MD is executive director, Spectrum Health Regional Cancer Network. Both physicians also practice at Cancer & Hematology Centers of Western Michigan.
The physicians will be working together with staff and other specialists in the area to provide a coordinated approach to cancer care.
“These physicians are not only experts in their fields of oncology but also have experience in working with various specialists to provide the best care possible,” said Matt Van Vranken, President, Spectrum Health Grand Rapids. “We take a coordinated, multidisciplinary approach to cancer care which requires working with oncologists, surgeons, radiologists, lab specialists and other to provide optimal treatment.”
Spectrum Health is one of the largest accredited cancer services providers in the state. Spectrum Health annually diagnoses and treats the majority of all new cancer cases in Kent County and about 40 percent of all new adult cancer inpatients in a 13-county service area. The oncology program also features four multispecialty clinics that provide an option to patients facing treatment decisions for breast, gastrointestinal, lung, prostate or genitourinary cancers. The clinics bring the patient together with a team of medical specialists to coordinate patient evaluation and treatment planning in days rather than weeks. This approach saves time, lessens anxiety, and speeds treatment with the goal of improving survival rates.
