VHA Leadership Award for Clinical Excellence
VHA Inc., a national health care alliance, has given Spectrum Health Reed City Campus a 2007 VHA Leadership Award for Clinical Excellence for the second straight year, honoring the hospital for meeting or exceeding national performance standards for clinical care in specific areas. Reed City Campus won the award for its efforts in:
- prevention of surgical infections
- treatment for congestive heart failure
The hospital was honored at VHA’s Leadership Conference in Denver on May 20. VHA serves more than 2,400 health care organizations nationwide, including 1,400 hospitals. VHA reviewed the performance of its members in 2006 and 277 member hospitals won clinical excellence awards for achievements in at least one of six clinical categories:
- treatment for heart attack patients
- prevention of surgical infections
- treatment for congestive heart failure
- implementation of rapid response teams
- prevention of blood stream infections
- treatment for pneumonia patients

Reed City Campus has been recognized for its quality care by the Michigan Quality Improvement Organization and has earned the Governor’s Award of Excellence for Improving Care in the Hospital Setting for 3 consecutive years, the Total Benchmark Solution quality award for 2005 as well as the 2006 and 2007 VHA Leadership Award for clinical excellence. Spectrum Health Reed City Campus is a 25-bed acute care hospital located in Reed City, MI that has adopted the Planetree approach to care giving.
