New Responsibilities Announced at the Kelsey Campus

Steve Fahlen, D.O., has been named medical director of the Kelsey Campus emergency department in Lakeview. He is board-certified in emergency medicine by the American Association of Physician Associates. His extensive emergency department experience includes eight years at the United Campus and work at Mercy Hospital-Cadillac. He prefers serving patients in the more intimate setting of the Kelsey Campus, as opposed to larger hospitals.

“As a sub-specialist, I get to do a bit of everything along with the rest of the team,” says Dr. Fahlen.

Dr. Fahlen believes his experience with electronic patient medical records will be a plus as the technology upgrades unfold at the Kelsey Campus. In the meantime, he is enjoying his work, his relationships with colleagues and his newfound fame.

“When I cam back from vacation there was a huge ‘welcome’ sign on the front of the hospital,”; says Dr. Fahlen. “The welcome from the entire community has been amazing.”

Dr. Fahlen has been married for 28 years, has five children and one granddaughter.

Denise Brock, R.N., ‘has been promoted to director of hospital nursing for the Kelsey Campus. She is responsible for nursing in the emergency department, urgent care, special procedures and acute care unit.

Previously, Brock was the first first-line supervisor for those same departments, with the exception of urgent care. She is certified as an emergency room nurse.

Brock is a director who is visible to staff and patients on the front line. She makes rounds every day to visit with patients and ask for their feedback on a “We Are Listening” card. The short survey card is designed to help ensure expectations are met during the patient’s stay.

“If patients are satisfied, then everything else that makes us successful will follow,” says Brock.

Brock has been at the Kelsey Campus since 1994, taking on year off to work at a hospital in Alaska. She and her husband live in Six Lakes. They have five grown children.
