Service Excellence Award Winners Announced
Spectrum Health United Memorial announced the organization’s Excellence Award winners on Saturday, February 17 at the annual Winterfest program held to honor staff, physicians and volunteers. This year’s event took place at the Greenville Armory, which hosted over 300 guests.
This past fall, the Excellence Award program was developed to support Spectrum Health United Memorial’s ongoing commitment to service excellence. This initiative is responsible for positively impacting hospital visits by enhancing patient and family experiences. The service excellence program is active at both the Kelsey Campus in Lakeview and the United Campus in Greenville.
“Service excellence is about creating consistency across the Spectrum Health United Memorial system,” says Paul Bonis, chief executive officer. “It demonstrates our commitment to create a culture that places the patient and family at the center of everything we do.”
Recognized for demonstrating an extraordinary commitment to excellence, the Excellence Award winners include:
Non-clinical Award
Mitch Sunderlin, Plant Operations/Maintenance, Kelsey Campus
Mitch is a strong guy with a soft touch. People count on him to lend a helping hand whether it’s to lift something heavy or volunteer for light-hearted tasks like manning a children’s game at Summer Fest. His stature is big and so is his spirit. Mitch is the go-to guy for co-workers and neighbors – most everyone has benefited from his selfless acts of kindness, the extra touches that make a big difference.
Clinical Award
Theresa Hurley, certified nurses’ aide, long-term care unit, United Campus
The residents know her as the “one with the laugh”. Theresa’s enthusiasm is contagious and dedication to residents is unwavering. She generously gives her time, running personal errands for residents and working extra shifts. She inspires residents to embrace life. Theresa is the one who brings in silly hats, the latest movies and baby bunnies. Delightful and diligent, she has a way of motivating everyone around her.
Leadership Award
Denise Brock, RN, Director of Nursing, Kelsey Campus
If Denise says she is going to do something, you can count on her to get it done. She’s committed to excellence, improving her own skills and encouraging staff to do the same. Denise leads by example, with care and compassion. Whether it’s making rounds to ask patients for their feedback, or comforting a child in the emergency department, Denise consistently leads the way in customer service.
In combination with the Excellence Award program, the annual Suzanne Christensen award was also presented. The Suzanne Christensen award was established in 1967, and is given to someone who demonstrates an outstanding contribution to Spectrum Health United Memorial through volunteerism or significant goodwill efforts.
