Spectrum Health United Memorial Receives Governor’s Award
United Hospital received a 2006 Governor’s Award for Improving Patient Safety and Quality of Care in the Hospital Setting; while Lakeview’s Kelsey Hospital received a 2006 Governor’s Award for Improving Patient Safety and Quality of Care in the Critical Access Hospital Setting (CAH).
In addition, out of 45 applicants in the Appropriate Care Measures category, United Hospital was recognized as one of five selected hospitals in Michigan to receive the 2006 Governor’s Recognition of Excellence Award. This special recognition (new in 2006) acknowledges top performers in each award category.
The Governor’s Award of Excellence is sponsored by the Governor in concert with MPRO, Michigan’s Medicare Quality Improvement Organization. The award is given to hospitals credited for advancing health care in Michigan by embracing evidence-based medicine and actively improving quality and clinical care. The Governor and MPRO have partnered to honor hospitals since 2003. This is the third year in a row that Spectrum Health United Memorial has received the Governor’s Award of Excellence.
“Award recipients are committed to providing Michigan citizens with high quality health care,” said Governor Jennifer M. Granholm. Award criterion aligns with improving care in a number of clinical areas – designated as national health care priorities by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
Led by physicians, board of trustees, clinical leaders and staff, Spectrum Health United Memorial has implemented national best practices and clinical standards, which assure excellent patient care and produce successful patient outcomes.
“Together, our staff is demonstrating that we are providing the very best in medical treatment and care – the right care, each and every time. Our efforts have been enhanced through the leadership of our medical staff and collaborations with MPRO, Michigan’s Medicare Quality Improvement Organization,” said Laurel Berends, chief quality officer.
An award ceremony was held in conjunction with MPRO’s annual QUALITY EXPO conference at the Radisson Plaza Hotel in Kalamazoo on September 10, 2007.
Spectrum Health United Memorial is committed to providing excellent personal care and services through state-of-the-art technology and qualified, caring staff at the Kelsey Hospital in Lakeview and the United Hospital in Greenville. Spectrum Health United Memorial provides local access to quality care through the region’s largest health care system.
