Gerber Memorial Health Services to Raise Funds for Digital Mammography Machine
GMHS is pleased to announce that it will soon acquire a new Digital Mammography Machine for its Women’s Imaging Center. Funds for the purchase are being raised through a number of events during the Spring and Summer of 2010. The first event – a Winter Golf Experience – will take place March 20, from 8 AM – 2 PM at Tamarac, The Center for Health and Well-Being, 1401 W. Main St. in Fremont.
Golf in the winter? Yes, indeed. For all golf fanatics, or anyone who has never swung a club, this experience is for people (and their families) who want to have some fun during the end of the gloomy winter. Gerber Memorial is setting up a nine-hole, putt-putt course in the empty section of the Tamarac building. There will also be an indoor chipping contest plus goodie bags for all participants and prizes. The first round of golf will cost $25, with each additional round just $10 each. There will be a small fee to enter the chipping contest. Bring your favorite putter (although putters will be available for those who have none).
It’s all for the best kind of cause. Proceeds will help purchase a Digital Mammography machine, which is the newest technology in early breast cancer detection. Although the procedure is much like regular mammography, the images provided are much clearer and more precise. Radiologists are able to process and retrieve the images faster, which means less waiting time for results.
Younger women and those choosing female hormone replacement therapy will be especially affected as digital screening provides better visualization of their denser breast tissue. Because the process is “filmless”, nothing has to be developed which reduces the need for repeat exams due to under or over exposure.
So turn out to have a fun experience for a great cause! Attend and see how many rounds you can get in without saying “fore”!
