Spectrum Health System Elects Two New Board Members
The Spectrum Health System Board of Directors has elected Steven C. Ender, PhD, and M. Ashraf Mansour, MD, to three-year terms.
Ender is president of Grand Rapids Community College (GRCC) and has spent more than 30 years in higher education. He has held numerous teaching, counseling and administrative positions and has published extensively in refereed journals as well as textbooks. Prior to his position at GRCC, he served as president of Westmoreland Community College in Youngwood, Pennsylvania.
A native of Richmond, Virginia, Ender holds a bachelor’s degree in business management from Virginia Commonwealth University; master’s and doctoral degrees in education from the University of Georgia; and has completed post-doctoral studies at The Snowmass Institute in Snowmass, Colorado and Harvard University.
Mansour is a vascular surgeon and executive with Spectrum Health Medical Group (SHMG). He is academic chair of surgical specialties and program director for the Vascular Surgery Training Program at SHMG. Mansour also currently serves as the interim chair, Department of Surgery West, Michigan State University College of Human Medicine.
Mansour received his medical degree from Cairo University School of Medicine. He completed his surgical internship and residency at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver. After serving in the United States Army as a major in the medical corps, he completed a fellowship in vascular and endovascular surgery at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.
Spectrum Health is a not-for-profit health system in West Michigan offering a full continuum of care through the Spectrum Health Hospital Group, which is comprised of nine hospitals including Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital, a state of the art children’s hospital that opened in January 2011, and 190 service sites; the Spectrum Health Medical Group and West Michigan Heart, physician groups totaling more than 700 providers; and Priority Health, a health plan with 600,000 members. Spectrum Health is West Michigan’s largest employer with more than 18,000 employees. The organization provided $176.5 million in community benefit during its 2011 fiscal year.
