Hospital Leadership to Bag Groceries at Vic’s Supermarket
Local Grocery Retailer to Match All Funds Raised during November 16th Event
On Friday, November 16 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Spectrum Health Reed City Hospital leaders will roll up their sleeves and bag groceries for the first ever “Celebrity Bagging Event” at Vic’s Supermarket in Reed City. During the event, hospital staff will bag groceries while accepting donations to support the “Bringing Hope Closer to Home” capital campaign for the new Susan P. Wheatlake Regional Cancer Center.
“We will match every donation given during this special event, dollar for dollar,” pledged Vic’s Supermarket owner James Neal. This event is part of Vic’s Supermarket’s program to raise awareness about the need to build the advanced cancer facility for patients and families in the community.
Spectrum Health Reed City Hospital is engaged in the largest and most important capital campaign in the hospital’s 127-year history – a $2.4 million fundraising effort that will expand their facilities to meet the community’s cancer care needs well into the future.
Chaired by Karl Linebaugh and Sheri Thompson, the Bringing Hope Closer to Home Campaign challenges the community to provide philanthropic support at a level unprecedented in this region. To reach the $2.4 million goal, they must rely on generous support from the communities within the 11 county region where Spectrum Health Reed City Hospital provides cancer treatment.
Cancer patients who do not live near a comprehensive cancer treatment center face difficult and frequent commutes into unfamiliar areas, oftentimes severely compromising their ability to maintain a normal routine. This is especially true for radiation therapy patients, for which an average protocol is 30 therapy treatments spread over several weeks.
The expanded center will offer a full scope of preventative efforts and education, diagnosis and treatment – all under one roof.
There are many opportunities for donating to the new cancer center. For more information on how to donate to the new center, contact the Spectrum Health Foundation at 231.832.7184 or visit the website at www.spectrumhealthfoundation.org and click on the Bringing Hope Closer to Home link.
