Spectrum Health Big Rapids and Reed City Hospitals Honor the Spring DAISY and BEE Award Winners
Recipients chosen for their exceptional care to patients
BIG RAPIDS & REED CITY, Mich., May 12, 2017 – To honor and celebrate compassionate care, Spectrum Health Big Rapids and Reed City Hospitals launched the DAISY and BEE Awards at the start of 2017. Nominated by patients or colleagues, two employees are selected each quarter, and honored for displaying exceptional care to patients.
Christie Johnson, RN of the Big Rapids Hospital Emergency Department was given the DAISY award, which is open to all nurses. Maegan Grein, Wellness Center assistant at the Susan P. Wheatlake Regional Cancer Center, was given the BEE award, which is open to all hospital staff.
The awards program was adopted from The DAISY Award, a wide-spread program established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. The Barnes family was awestruck by the clinical skills, caring and compassion of the nurses who cared for Patrick and created an international award to say thank you to nurses everywhere.
Christie was nominated for her innate kindness and respect towards her patients in the emergency room. Her nomination notes, “After going through a miscarriage, Chris was so caring and reassuring toward me. She checked on me a lot to make sure I was always comfortable. I couldn’t get over how much better she made us feel and how much you could tell she liked doing her job and taking care of people.”
Maegan was nominated for her glowing smile and empathy towards patients in the cancer center. Her nomination notes, “Coming to the cancer center can be very difficult for patients and families, Maegan has been a guiding light for so many people. She has made a point to learn everyone’s names and patients eyes light up when she greets them. She is so full compassion and positivity. I have seen her cry with patients and families because of the strong connections she has built.”
Nominations continue to be open for any Spectrum Health employee who has gone above and beyond in creating a meaningful experience for a patient. Forms can be found at any Spectrum Health facility in Mecosta and Osceola counties or submitted online at https://www.onlineregistrationcenter.com/DAISYandBEEAward.
