Gosselin appointed director of inpatient services at Ludington Hospital

February 5, 2018

Ann “Kate” Gosselin, RN, DNP, CEN  has recently been appointed as the new director of inpatient services at Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital. Gosselin has recently started her new position at the hospital while concurrently working in Ann Arbor as clinical assistant professor in the Department of Systems Leadership Effectiveness Science at University of Michigan and serving as faculty advisor for doctorate nursing practice students. Prior to that, she served as clinical educator in Nursing Business and Health Systems at University of Michigan and prior to that, she was clinical nurse manager for the Center for Advanced Cardiac Intervention at Detroit Medical Centers Harper University Hospital in Detroit. She has held charge nurse and supervisory positions in emergency department trauma units, intensive care, an orthopedics and neurosurgery unit as well as a gastrointestinal medical unit.

Gosselin, a native of Chicago, received a bachelor of science nursing degree from Saint Mary’s at Notre Dame in 1990.  In 2010 she received a master of science nursing degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and, in 2014 she received a doctorate in nursing practice (DNP) from Rush University School of Nursing – Nursing Systems and Leadership in Chicago. She also is a certified emergency nurse (CEN) through the Emergency Nurses Association.

Gosselin holds memberships in several professional societies. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International, the U.S. and Michigan Emergency Nurses Association, American Organization of Nurse Executives and National Communication Association. In addition, she holds many committee, organizational and volunteer service positions, has published various clinical and research articles and posters and has presented on a variety of clinical topics.

Regarding her move to Ludington, Gosselin stated, “I’m very excited to be able to bring my skills and experiences from the urban settings in which I’ve practiced to the more rural setting of West Michigan. Quality improvement and patient safety have always been a priority in both my scholarship and practice. Having the advantage of experiencing this in both a rural and urban setting is a wonderful added bonus.

“When I was younger, I came to this area every summer and I never thought I would be able to make this my permanent home” Gosselin said. “I am looking forward to living in such a beautiful area of Michigan.”

Gosselin relocated to Ludington in December from Brighton where she’s lived for 20 years.

“Kate is going to make a fantastic addition to our management team,” said Helen Johnson, chief nursing officer at Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital. “She brings experience and training in LEAN management principles as well as a best-practice, evidence-based focus for nursing care and a passion for patient safety.  We are thrilled to welcome her.”
