Ludington Hospital partners with Lakeshore Resource Network to increase access to primary care

MedNow kiosk now open at LRN

March 21, 2018

Monica Schuyler, executive director of the Pennies From Heaven Foundation, and Fritz Petersen, MedNow specialist at Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital, pose with the new MedNow kiosk located at the Lakeshore Resource Network in Ludington.

Customers of the Lakeshore Resource Network (LRN) and partner agencies now have a convenient way to access medical care with the set-up of a Spectrum Health MedNow kiosk at the LRN location on Tinkham Avenue in Ludington. The MedNow kiosk allows people to have a primary care appointment with a medical provider through a computer set up in a private room.

“One of the goals of Spectrum Health is to improve access to care, and the primary way we are doing that is with MedNow technology, which puts primary care availability into the hands of people at virtually any location,” said Fritz Petersen, MedNow specialist with Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital. “The only remaining barrier is that people have to have the technology to access the appointment and they have to have a wifi connection to make the technology work. We recognize that not everybody has that, so we’ve partnered with the Lakeshore Resources Network to provide the technology and the connection so that any person can access this service.”

Monica Schuyler, executive director of the Pennies From Heaven Foundation, which operates the LRN, is excited to partner with Spectrum Health to provide this much needed resource in Mason County.

“MedNow is a great resource offered to our community, but it’s not always accessible to the community at large,” said Schuyler. “If you don’t own or know how to use smart phone technology, or if you don’t have access to the internet, it can prevent a person from using MedNow. That’s why we looked to Spectrum Health to partner with us to provide this service at the Lakeshore Resource Network. It’s an opportunity to have telemedicine services in a safe and private place.”

MedNow treats a wide range of minor conditions such as coughs, colds, flu, fevers, rashes and more. It never costs more than $45 and is covered by most insurance plans. For those who need a prescription, MedNow providers will call in a prescription to your local pharmacy.

MedNow is available to everyone regardless of whether you have insurance or are a Spectrum Health patient. It is available 24/7/365 for anyone with a smart device and internet access. If devices and internet access are limitations, the MedNow kiosk at the Lakeshore Resource Network is open to the public Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
