U.S. News & World Report Recognizes Area Rehab and Nursing Centers
Spectrum Health Rehabilitation and Nursing Centers at United and Kelsey Hospitals receive highest rankings
Greenville and Lakeview, Mich., Oct. 29, 2019 – Spectrum Health United and Kelsey Hospitals’ Rehabilitation and Nursing Centers received the highest overall rating from U.S. News & World Report. The “high performing” ranking was issued for both hospitals’ short-term rehabilitation programs and for long-term care for Spectrum Health Kelsey Hospital.
A facility’s short-stay rehabilitation rating is based on nine quality measures focusing on staffing, outcomes, resident complaints and processes of care. The report designates nursing homes as high-performing, average or below average in the care they provided to patients who spent 100 days or less at the skilled nursing facility.
“Our team is committed to providing personalized health care made simple, affordable and exceptional,” said Shelly Parker, Spectrum Health Rehabilitation and Nursing Center administrator who oversees both facilities. “Building relationships among staff and residents is vital to our success and enables us to consistently provide quality care in an environment where everyone can thrive.”
The short-stay rating also considers:
- the training level of nursing staff
- the amount of physical rehabilitation that patients received
- all three outcome measures available
- the percentage of patients who were appropriately vaccinated for influenza
- number of resident complaints a home received
- the stability of facility staffing
- whether or not a home is delivering patient-centered rehabilitation therapy
U.S. News evaluated more than 15,000 facilities throughout the country and rated most of them in two different areas: overall care and short-stay rehabilitation. Rankings by state can be seen at http://health.usnews.com/best-nursing-homes.
