BHSH Spectrum Health West Michigan Opens Behavioral Health Youth Clinic
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Sept 26, 2022 – Today, BHSH Spectrum Health West Michigan opened a behavioral health youth clinic to help adolescents and young adults navigate unique challenges between the ages of 15-25.
Patients in this age range are working to find independence, creating social connections and thinking about major life choices. This is also the age when chronic mental illness and addictions can start to form.
“Half of mental illnesses begin by age 14,” said Dr. Subodh Jain, division chief of psychiatry at BHSH Spectrum Health West Michigan. “By opening this clinic and targeting care to this age group, we hope to be able to care for patients early which is key for successful treatment.”
The specialized team is built around this critical age range—evaluating, diagnosing and treating youth to help them transition into adulthood. Services offered will include psychiatry, psychological testing and psychotherapy to address mental health needs including anxiety, depression, substance use disorder and other diagnoses.
The care team will open with the following providers: Dora Hillman, DO; Rebecca Hershman, LMSW; Catherine Miller, PA-C. Benjamin Bizar-Stanton, PhD JD, will join the practice in January 2023.
The clinic will be located at 1545 68th Street SE, Suite 200 in Grand Rapids and is made possible by nearly 200 gifts by individuals and organizations to create more access to mental health care.
