Compassionate care honored with DAISY and BEE Awards

Corewell Health Greenville Hospital nurses recognized by patients.

Mikaela Lamb and Elizabeth Kemme, RN

Greenville, Mich., October 25, 2022 – Two caregivers at Corewell Health Greenville Hospital, formerly Spectrum Health United Hospital, were recognized for compassionate care and nursing excellence at a DAISY and BEE Awards ceremony October 24 at the hospital.

Elizabeth Kemme, RN, who works in the Greenville Hospital inpatient unit, was honored with a DAISY Award after being nominated by a recent patient.

“Elizabeth was such a warm, kind-hearted woman,” the nomination read. “She acted like more than my nurse. She cared for me like I was a member of her family or a friend. She constantly checked on me and comforted me. At times I could not handle the pain and Liz was right there to comfort me. She showed me affection and kindness, constantly checking on me. My care was top-notch, and she is a nurse I hope to have every time myself or my family may need to come stay. She is a fantastic nurse and friend to you while you’re in her care. Thank you, Elizabeth for being so amazing when I needed your uplifting spirit and kind words or genuine friendship – you exceeded everything I expected for a hospital stay.”

Mikaela Lamb, a nursing technician in the inpatient unit, received the BEE Award for the care she gave a recent patient.

“During my recent stay at Greenville Hospital, I was fortunate to have Mikaela on my care team,” the nomination read. “She tended to me with caring and compassionate competence. She was wonderful – always sweet and polite. She went out of her way to help me. She truly cared how I felt.”

The DAISY award program was adopted from The DAISY Award, an international program established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. The Barnes family was deeply appreciative of the clinical skills, caring and compassion of the nurses who cared for Patrick, so they created an award to say thank you to nurses everywhere.

Greenville and Kelsey Hospitals have expanded the recognition program to include the BEE award, open to all clinical and non-clinical employees, in addition to nurses.

Nominations are open for any Corewell Health employee who regularly goes above and beyond in creating a meaningful experience for patients. The awards are given based on nominations from patients, community members and colleagues.

Nomination forms can be found at any Corewell Health facility or submitted online at: https://www.onlineregistrationcenter.com/UHKHDaisyAwards
