Corewell Health Foundation Big Rapids and Reed City Hospitals Hosts 10th Annual Charity Golf Classic

Charity Golf Classic fundraising efforts will help support local youth experiencing behavioral health struggles.

BIG RAPIDS and REED CITY, Mich., July 2, 2024 – Online registration is now open for the 10th annual Corewell Health™ Foundation Big Rapids and Reed City Hospitals Charity Golf Classic, an event that raises funds to provide behavioral health resources and services for local youth. The Charity Golf Classic will take place on Monday, Aug. 12, at Tullymore Golf Resort.

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), nearly 1 in 5 children have a mental, emotional or behavioral disorder with only 20% receiving care from a specialized mental health care provider. Long wait times for traditional outpatient counseling services, combined with transportation difficulties, often prevent youth from receiving the mental health care that they need.

To ensure that children in the Big Rapids and Reed City areas have access to treatment, licensed master social workers provide care through Corewell Health school telemedicine clinics in Big Rapids, Reed City and Evart high schools. Throughout 2023, Corewell Health school telemedicine clinics served over 1,000 students who may otherwise have limited access to mental health services.

All proceeds from the Charity Golf Classic will help Corewell Health school telemedicine clinics remain available year-round, which provide treatment for conditions like anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, adjustment disorders and general trauma, to any student, regardless of their financial status.

“Due to the generous philanthropy of local donors, students in our community have been able to continue to utilize the onsite school clinic for the treatment of their behavioral health needs,” said Katie Thorsen, manager, virtual health, Corewell Health. “Behavioral health issues among adolescents are at an all-time high across the country. The Corewell Health school telemedicine program allows adolescents to receive services by removing barriers to access care in their own communities. We are extremely grateful for our partnership with local schools to support these students. These funds are making a difference in the community every day.”

Registration is open until Aug. 1. The cost to golf begins at $175 with a golf cart, breakfast and lunch included. There are also various sponsorship packages available.
