Corewell Health Ludington Hospital donates to Lakeshore Food Club

Corewell Health™ (formerly Spectrum Health) Ludington Hospital made a $2,000 donation to Lakeshore Food Club on Monday, December 19, 2022. The donation was part of an effort across Corewell Health West to help local communities with high-priority needs.

“We recognize that while the holidays are often billed as ‘the most wonderful time of the year,’ for many of our local residents there is added stress and financial strain,” said Drew Dostal, president and regional market leader, Corewell Health Ludington Hospital. “We want to make an impact on our local community and the Lakeshore Food Club is an excellent option to help make that happen.”

According to O’Nealya Gronstal, executive director of the Lakeshore Food Club, their membership has increased by 100 percent in 2022.

“Lakeshore Food Club appreciates this donation by Corewell Health Ludington Hospital, as well as their partnership and support,” Gronstal said. “We share a common goal of creating a healthier Mason County. This unexpected holiday donation is one of immediate impact in helping us to provide dignified access to fresh healthy foods.

“This gift will fill our produce bins with fresh fruits and vegetables through January,” Gronstal continued. “We have served 20 percent of the Mason County population this year, and we have seen our household sizes increase from 2.6 individuals to 4.9 individuals. What a great way to start 2023 and allow our members to start the new year with the healthiest choices available to them.”

Lakeshore Food Club is located at 920 E. Tinkham Avenue in Ludington. It is a non-profit grocery store offering a wide range of food options for low-income families. Qualifying members pay a low 30-day membership fee and select food using points based on household size.
