Corewell Health names Darryl Elmouchi, MD, chief operating officer as system integration gathers momentum
GRAND RAPIDS and SOUTHFIELD, Mich., April 25, 2023 – Corewell Health™ has appointed Darryl Elmouchi, MD, MBA, as its chief operating officer, bringing the clinical operations of Michigan’s top health care system into even greater alignment.
Elmouchi had served as president of Corewell Health West, which oversees the system’s West Michigan-based health care operations, since 2020, and has been with the organization as a practicing cardiac electrophysiologist since 2006.
“A year after the integration that created Corewell Health, we are hitting our stride, culturally and operationally,” said Corewell Health President & CEO Tina Freese Decker. “The time is right to harmonize our clinical teams to provide the best possible care for our patients statewide. Darryl has demonstrated the collaborative, caring style of leadership that will bring out the best in our system to serve our patients.”
Said Elmouchi: “Our clinical professionals across Michigan are focused on helping our patients live the healthiest lives they can. This past year has shown us how much our doctors, nurses and team members have in common. We have an exciting opportunity to bring together our strengths and talents to make them even more accessible to all our patients.”
“Corewell Health has deep roots in our local communities, and our system keeps us close to our communities through our regional presidents and leadership teams,” Freese Decker said. “Now, the addition of a COO allows us to build more collaboration and best practices among our clinical teams – it truly gives us the best of both worlds. Working together, Darryl and his regional leaders will help bring our communities health care that is exceptional, simple, affordable and equitable – the qualities that we want everyone to associate with Corewell Health.”
Corewell Health also announced the appointment of Alejandro Quiroga, MD, MBA, as the new president of Corewell Health West, succeeding Elmouchi. Quiroga had served as the chief medical officer and head of its ambulatory care and population health programs for Corewell Health in West Michigan.
“Ale Quiroga is a committed and innovative leader with a heartfelt dedication to improving health in our community,” Freese Decker said. “We look forward to the leadership he will bring to our team in West Michigan, and as a new voice on the leadership team at Corewell Health.”
Both of these leadership appointments are effective May 1, 2023.
