Doctors Day Feature – Ashley Feehan, DO

Ashley Feehan, DO, remembers the moment she felt the pull toward becoming a physician.

Dr. Feehan was working as a veterinary assistant in Grand Rapids, and at the time she thought she wanted to be a veterinarian someday.

“There was a day when I was taking care of a pet and a person at the same time,” she said. “I felt more driven to help the person deal with what was going on and thought ‘maybe I should try medicine.’”

She’s never looked back.

She already had her bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Michigan, and she started working as a phlebotomist at Spectrum Health Butterworth and Spectrum Health Helen Devos Children’s Hospital, now both part of Corewell Health™ while preparing for medical school.

Dr. Feehan, who is a Wisconsin native, but grew up in Ada, attended and earned her doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2018.

She completed a three-year family medicine residency at Spectrum Health Greenville Family Medicine, which will become Corewell Health Greenville Family Medicine, and was hired as a physician immediately after in October of 2021.

Dr. Feehan likes working with patients of all ages.

“I really love seeing everybody, that’s why I went into family medicine,” she said. “I wanted to be that true family doctor. I’m inclusive of everybody that walks through the door.”

She said she tries to be each patient’s partner on their health journey and sees her role as a coach and health navigator.

“It’s a tired saying, but I really did get into medicine to help people,” she said. “What I hope to do is help everybody lead the life they want and give them the best quality in the time that they have.”

Dr. Feehan lives in Ada with her husband, Tim, and their two children, Henry, 5, and Anna, 2.
