Health Care Industry Supply Organization Issues Position Statement on Supply Resiliency

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Jan. 18, 2022 – The Healthcare Industry Resiliency Collaborative (HIRC) has issued a Position Statement on Supply Resiliency calling on health care suppliers and providers to work together to improve the strength of the supply chain.

HIRC is a 501c6 non-profit organization begun by industry supply chain leaders and experts from Spectrum Health and Mayo Clinic in late 2019. The organization now counts nearly four dozen leading health care providers, a dozen suppliers and several additional partners among its growing community of partners.

“Traditional supply chain functions in the health care industry have largely been passive in addressing challenges of resiliency,” said Bill Selles, senior director of procurement for Spectrum Health and HIRC Board Chair. “Now is the time for leading organizations to reshape the paradigm and create a more reliable supply chain for our patients.”

HIRC calls on providers and suppliers to work together to accomplish a number of goals, including:

Develop predictive and preventative strategies enabled by increased transparency and communication
Engage in best practice sharing designed to solve for supply chain reliability and optimization
Reshape value proposition, commitment and accountability to incentivize resilient practices
Establish industry standards for resiliency to enable consistency and scale
