James Birmingham, MD, Joins Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital as Rheumatologist

 

Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital today announced the appointment of pediatric rheumatologist James Birmingham, MD, to its medical staff. Birmingham is the first and only full-time pediatric rheumatologist in West Michigan.

Birmingham treats a variety of autoimmune and inflammatory conditions that affect joints, bones, and muscles. Specific conditions treated include juvenile arthritis, juvenile spondyloarthritis, psoriatic arthritis, lupus, dermatomyositis, scleroderma, and vasculitis.

The Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital Rheumatology Clinic is located at 221 Michigan Suite 406 in Grand Rapids. Birmingham also has an office at 1155 East Paris Avenue in Grand Rapids.

Birmingham earned his medical degree from The Ohio State University. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Butterworth Hospital and pediatrics Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital respectively. He then completed a combined pediatric and adult rheumatology fellowship at Duke University.

Birmingham is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Rheumatology. He is board-certified in pediatrics and internal medicine.

Birmingham is a resident of Lowell.
