Kohl’s Donates More Than $130,000 to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital’s Safe Kids Program
A $133,030 donation from Kohl’s Department Stores is helping to keep children in West Michigan safe. Representatives from Kohl’s will present Safe Kids Greater Grand Rapids-a program of Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital-with the donation on Saturday, August 22, at 10 a.m. at the Rivertown Crossings location. In addition to the check presentation, certified child passenger safety experts will provide free car seat safety inspections from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“The Kohl’s Cares for Kids’ program serves as the foundation of our program” said Melinda Howard, injury prevention specialists and Safe Kids Greater Grand Rapids program manager. “Preventing injury and keeping children safe is our sole mission. The donation from Kohl’s enables us to provide resources and tools for our community.”
Funds provided by Kohl’s support ongoing Safe Kids Greater Grand Rapids injury prevention programs including the Birth to Boosters-Kohl’s Kids Ride Safe at Every Stage program, bike helmet distributions and safety expos. Safe Kids Greater Grand Rapids is one of more than 300 grassroots coalitions in 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico that bring together health and safety experts, educators, corporations, foundations, local governments and volunteers to educate and protect families.
Kohl’s commitment is made possible through the Kohl’s Cares for Kids’ program, which raises funds for children’s health and educational opportunities through the sale of special gift items. Net profits from the sales go to support children’s health and educational opportunities in the market areas served by Kohl’s. Kohl’s community outreach also includes Kohl’s Kids Who Care’, an annual youth volunteer recognition program, fundraising gift cards for local schools and non-profit youth groups, as well as an associate program to encourage volunteerism.
