Ludington’s First Baby of 2015
Reid Anthony Kies came into the world Friday morning, January 2, as the first baby born this year at Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital.
Reid and his parents, mom Casey Flanery and dad Tony Kies, live in Hart. Baby Reid weighed 6 lbs., 14 oz. and was 20½ inches long when born at 10:11 a.m. in the hospital’s Family Birthing Center.
Reid has both a big sister and big brother to welcome him home. All were born in January. Sister Taylor Kies will soon be 5, and brother Colton Kies is about to celebrate his 2nd birthday. All are named after grandparents, and Reid’s middle name is from his father.
Reid was delivered by Tim Murphy, MD, and Casey’s general obstetrician is Dan Gentry, MD.
In honor of the occasion, Reid’s mom was presented with a blanket and cap knitted by a hospital volunteer, plus a gift basket. Some of the gift items included a hospital logo sleepsack for safe sleep, other sleepwear, bibs, a bath set of towel and wash cloth, diapers, and formula.
The Family Birthing Center at Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital delivered 347 babies during calendar year 2014, compared with 316 the previous year.
Mom Casey Flanery holds newborn son Reid Anthony Kies, the first baby of 2015 at Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital. Sharing the happy occasion are dad Tony Kies and big sister Taylor Kies, 5.
