OB/GYN Physicians Join Spectrum Health Medical Group

Will Provide Inpatient Support at Butterworth Hospital

Spectrum Health Medical Group has added two new physicians who will help provide increased support for obstetric and gynecological patients at Butterworth Hospital and in the community.

Michelle Backus-Walzer, MD, and Rebecca Caldwell, MD, are joining the medical group this month.

‘”Dr. Caldwell and Dr. Backus-Walzer will provide vital support for our staff physicians in labor and delivery and will help supervise our OB residents,” said James M. Tucci, MD, MMM, president, Spectrum Health Medical Group. “They will help us improve access to care both in the hospital and collaboratively with community clinics.”

Dr. Caldwell earned her medical degree at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and served her residency in OB/GYN through the Grand Rapids Medical Education and Research Center/Michigan State University College of Human Medicine.

Dr. Backus-Walzer earned her medical degree at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and served her residency in OB/GYN at New York University School of Medicine in New York, NY.

The Spectrum Health Medical Group employs more than 90 physicians and mid-level providers, such as nurse practitioners and physician assistants.’
