Reach Out and Read Art Contest

Students who live in Lake, Mason, or Oceana counties are invited to create a piece of artwork inspired by a favorite book.

January 10, 2024

Corewell Health Ludington Hospital Pediatrics and the Reach Out and Read team are looking for literacy-related artwork to be displayed in the waiting area of Corewell Health Pediatrics. Student-generated art based on books will support the Reach Out and Read message that literacy is a vital component of children’s health.

Students in kindergarten through 12th grade who live in Lake, Mason, or Oceana counties are invited to create a piece of artwork inspired by a favorite book. Students are encouraged to think about books that they have recently read. We are looking for art that speaks to the entire Corewell Health Pediatrics patient population, from pre-school-aged children to teens.

Artwork should represent a favorite book or share a particular scene from a favorite book without using words, although minimal words are allowed within the artwork.

Contest judges will consider the following areas when choosing pieces for the pediatrics office:

  • Best personal impression
  • Most unique interpretation
  • Most creative

Submissions should be a maximum size of 9” x 12”. Artwork may be created with ANY medium. An informational form should accompany each piece of artwork.

The deadline for submissions is February 24, 2024. Please email or call Leona Ashley, Leona.ashley@corewellhealth.org, 231.845.5455 with any questions and release forms. Please return your artwork either by scanning and emailing it or returning it to the schools for it to be collected by February 28 and 29, 2024. Submissions will not be returned.

The artwork will be “judged”/chosen by Corewell Health Pediatrics staff and the Reach Out and Read team. Thirteen winners in all will be chosen.

Artwork will be framed, and winning pieces will be displayed in the waiting area at Corewell Health Pediatrics. Other entries may also be displayed in the office. Submissions may also be posted on social media.

Students whose artwork is chosen for display will each receive a gift.
