Spectrum Health and Zeeland Community Hospital Vote to Move Forward with Integration Process

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., November 29, 2010 — The Spectrum Health System Board of Directors and Zeeland Community Hospital (ZCH) Board of Directors have each approved resolutions that would integrate ZCH into Spectrum Health. Based on the resolutions, ZCH will become a Spectrum Health hospital, effective January 1, 2011. Specific terms of the agreement are confidential.

“Spectrum Health has had a long-standing relationship with Zeeland Community Hospital for more than a decade,” said Matt Van Vranken, executive vice president of Spectrum Health and president of Spectrum Health Hospital Group. “This agreement takes that relationship to a new level by integrating Zeeland into Spectrum Health and will enable us to provide a broader, more coordinated array of services to the region.”

Patients of Zeeland Community Hospital will experience the same level of consistent, quality care they have come to appreciate and value. Integration into the Spectrum Health System will take place over the next 12 to 24 months. During this time, there will be no interruption in patient care.

“Our Board came to this decision after an intensive and thorough analysis of several options. Integration with Spectrum Health will ensure care for the Zeeland, Hudsonville and surrounding communities today and far into the future,” said Henry Veenstra, president of Zeeland Community Hospital. “Our patients will benefit from expanded services and access to additional expertise that is unmatched in our region. We look forward to serving our patients with the same exceptional, compassionate care that has been our passion, tradition and trademark for over 80 years.”
