Spectrum Health Announces Leadership Transitions

Spectrum Health is pleased to announce two leadership transitions. A veteran executive and physician leader are taking on new roles in the organization.

Tina Freese-Decker has accepted the position of president, Spectrum Health Hospital Group. In this role, Tina will have responsibility for the operations and growth strategy of Spectrum Health’s 11 hospitals, ambulatory care sites and post-acute services. She will assume her new responsibilities on July 21.

Tina moves into this position from her role as senior vice president/chief strategy officer, Spectrum Health. Prior to her strategy officer role, she served as president, Spectrum Health United and Kelsey Hospitals. She also has held a number of other leadership roles within the system. Tina is the Michigan and Northwest Ohio regent for the American College of Healthcare Executives and recently earned their Robert S. Hudgens Memorial Award for Young Healthcare Executive of the Year. She also has received numerous awards, including Becker’s Hospital Review’s Rising Stars: 25 Healthcare Leaders Under Age 40. In 2012, she was also named one of the 40 Under Forty by the Grand Rapids Business Journal (GRBJ) and this year was named one of the 50 Most Influential Women in West Michigan by the GRBJ. Tina earned her bachelor’s degree in finance from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, and holds master’s degrees in health administration and industrial engineering from The University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. She joined Spectrum Health in 2002.

Seth W. Wolk, MD, MHSA, president, Spectrum Health Medical Group (SHMG), will assume the additional responsibilities of chief medical officer (CMO), Spectrum Health. He will be assuming his new responsibilities on August 4. Dr. Wolk was named president of SHMG in March 2014. With his new responsibilities, Dr. Wolk will serve the organization in the dual roles of president, SHMG and CMO, Spectrum Health. A board-certified vascular surgeon, Dr. Wolk has been a member of the SHMG physician leadership team since 2012 having also served as the group’s associate chief medical officer and department chief, surgical services. He earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School and completed his general surgery residency at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Following this he earned his fellowship in peripheral vascular surgery from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Dr. Wolk also has a graduate degree in health care services administration from the University of Michigan School of Public Health.
