Spectrum Health Elects New System Board Officers and Two New Members
Spectrum Health System Board of Directors has elected new officers and two new members to serve on its system board. Elections were held at the board’s annual meeting on Tuesday, September 29. The system board provides oversight and strategic direction to the health system which includes Spectrum Health Hospital Group, Spectrum Health Medical Group and Priority Health.
Richard M. DeVos, Jr. (Dick) has been named chairman of the Spectrum Health System Board of Directors. DeVos was elected to a two-year term.
“Dick has been a valuable and committed leader on multiple boards for Spectrum Health. He will be an outstanding chairman as our board and system continue toward our vision to be the national leader for health by 2020,” said Richard C. Breon, President & CEO, Spectrum Health.
DeVos joined the Spectrum Health System Board of Directors in 2010. He is an emeritus member of both the Spectrum Health Foundation Board of Trustees and Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital Foundation Board of Trustees, where he also served as chair.
The system board also elected current members Bob Roth as vice chairman and Beth Nickels as treasurer. Roth and Nickels joined the system board in 2011. The officer positions are both two-year terms.
In addition, two new members were elected to serve. Bill Payne and Sean P. Welsh will serve three-year terms.
Payne is vice chairman of Amway Corporation. Previously, he served as executive vice president and chief of staff at Amway and was responsible for ensuring enterprise alignment, efficiency and effectiveness in a global environment.
Welsh is executive vice president and regional president – West Michigan for PNC. He previously served as senior vice president and division manager for National City’s Corporate Banking group in Chicago and Northern Illinois.
Spectrum Health is a not-for-profit health system, based in West Michigan, offering a full continuum of care through the Spectrum Health Hospital Group, which is comprised of 12 hospitals, including Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital; 183 ambulatory and service sites; more than 3,100 physicians and advanced practice providers, including 1,100 members of the Spectrum Health Medical Group; and Priority Health, a health plan with about 653,000 members. This is the fourth time the organization has received this recognition.
