Spectrum Health Foundation and Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital Foundation 2022 Gala Benefitting Behavioral Health

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., June 1, 2022 – Spectrum Health Foundation and Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital Foundation Gala event will take place on Saturday, June 18, 2022, at DeVos Place, Grand Rapids, Michigan. Gala proceeds are benefiting Spectrum Health Behavioral and Mental Health Programs.

“Our focus on funding and supporting behavioral health in our communities remains a critical priority,” said Kelly Dyer, president, Spectrum Health Foundation and Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital Foundation. “We look forward to sharing the lifesaving programs being developed and provided by our behavioral health team. With your help, we are increasing access to mental health support, treatment and suicide prevention.”

Proceeds from the gala will complete an initial $3.3 million Behavioral Health Initiative started July 2021. The Behavioral Health Initiative and committee was led by co-chairs Maria DeVos and Candace Matthews. “We are grateful to Maria and Candace for their leadership and support of behavioral health,” said Bill Currie, co-chair Gala Fundraising Committee. “The Gala Fundraising Committee is honored to finalize this goal; we are proud of our community for this important work. It takes all of us to make a difference.”

Mental health struggles are not new, but they have heightened in the past few years due to increased stress, decreased mobility, economic upheaval, and social injustice. Youth and adolescents have been particularly impacted. Consequently, one hundred fifty high schoolers attempt suicide every hour, on average, across the United States. In West Michigan, the numbers tell a similar story. Spectrum Health, with the support of philanthropy, is supporting the creation of a new youth behavioral health clinic and suicide prevention program for schools.

“This is an important time for the community and corporate partners to come together and support the life-changing and lifesaving work at Spectrum Health and Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital,” said Johnny Brann, Jr, Gala Fundraising Co-Chair. “We are excited to be together for the first time in two years around this important cause.”

Spectrum Health Gala is the largest fundraising event in West Michigan with close to 2,000 people in attendance. The Detroit Youth Choir will bring excitement and energy to the evening through song and dance.
