Spectrum Health Foundation Honors Dick DeVos

Longest Serving Foundation Chair Receives Art of Giving Award

The Spectrum Health Foundation has honored Dick DeVos with its Art of Giving Award. It was awarded at the Foundation’s annual celebration of philanthropy.

The Art of Giving Award is annually presented to those who exemplify the meaning of philanthropy through their service to Spectrum Health. Recipients of the Art of Giving Award have demonstrated uncommon service and leadership to Spectrum Health, its foundations, and the West Michigan community.

DeVos has been a Foundation board member since 1990 and has served as its chair since 1994, with a leave while running for governor. He helped guide the Foundation through numerous changes and served as a co-chair for the campaign that established the Fred and Lena Meijer Heart Center, which exceeded its $30 million goal.

Spectrum Health is a not-for-profit health system in West Michigan that offers a full continuum of care through the Spectrum Health Hospital Group, a collection of eight hospitals and more than 170 service sites; the Spectrum Health Medical Group, mmpc® and West Michigan Heart—physician groups totaling more than 500 providers; and Priority Health, a health plan with nearly 580,000 members. Spectrum Health’s 16,000 employees, 1,500 medical staff members and 2,000 volunteers are committed to delivering the highest quality care. The organization provided $79.4 million in community benefit during its 2009 fiscal year. In 2010, Spectrum Health was named a Top 10 Health System by Thomson Reuters.
