Spectrum Health Gerber Memorial Announces New Construction Project
Phase One to Enlarge Maple Street Employee Parking Lot
Spectrum Health Gerber Memorial President, Randy Stasik, announced today the beginning of a three-month construction project for the hospital. The organization will break ground the first of March – to enlarge and enhance the Maple Street parking lot, directly north of the main hospital entrance.
This new construction will replace the current lot bound by Gerber Avenue on the west, Maple Street on the south, Sullivan Avenue on the east and Sheridan Street on the north.
The lot currently holds 63 parking spaces and will – at completion – provide 208.
“As we have grown since our merger with Spectrum Health, the parking situation at the hospital has deteriorated,” stated Stasik. “It was clearly necessary to alleviate the stress and time needed for employees to find a parking space.”
Not only will this ensure convenient access to the hospital for employees, it will also act as an overflow lot for patients, their family members, hospital volunteers and those who visit the hospital on business.
Beginning Friday, March 1, the current north parking lot will be closed to traffic. The plan is to complete construction on the lot by May 15.
“As we continue to help improve the health of the communities we serve,” Stasik also noted, “it is necessary to construct the best environment in which our talented professionals can continue to provide the highest quality, safest care possible to our patients.”
This phase is the first of a two-year construction plan that will ultimately relocate the outpatient surgery wing which will include additional private patient rooms, and a new Emergency Department to meet the growing, urgent demands of the community.
