Spectrum Health Grand Rapids Names Chief Operating Officer

Kevin Splaine has been selected chief operating officer (COO) for Spectrum Health Grand Rapids. Splaine brings twenty years of experience in the health care industry, including several years in health system leadership roles.

“Kevin brings great leadership expertise from years at other integrated health care systems,” said Matt Van Vranken, executive vice president, Spectrum Health System and president, Spectrum Health Hospital Group. “Our goal is to provide exceptional patient experiences, which is dependent on a fine tuned operation that includes the best clinical outcomes as well as superior service to patients and their families.”

For the past nine years, Splaine has worked for the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, a $1.2 billion fully integrated academic health center, including a college of medicine, university hospital, children’s hospital and a 750-physician medical group. He served as the chief operating officer for the Penn State Hershey Health System, and the chief strategy officer for the academic medical center and Penn State College of Medicine.

In his role as chief operating officer, Kevin will be responsible for clinical operations at all inpatient and outpatient Spectrum Health Grand Rapids locations. He also will help develop strategic plans and long range goals for the organization.

Splaine earned a bachelor’s degree at the Harvard University and a master’s degree in health administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He will assume his new role on August 23.
