Spectrum Health Lakeland Appoints Vice President of Philanthropy

ST. JOSEPH, Mich., March 1, 2022 – Soroya Pierre-VanArtsen, MBA, was recently appointed vice president of philanthropy, Spectrum Health Lakeland and president, Spectrum Health Lakeland Foundation. In this role she will oversee the foundation’s operations with a focus on maintaining effective relationships with community partners and preserving a culture of philanthropy at Lakeland.

In 2020, Pierre-VanArtsen became senior director of the Spectrum Health Lakeland Foundation. Prior to that she served as director of business operations and finance for Spectrum Health Healthier Communities. She earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Davenport University and a Master of Business Administration degree from Western Michigan University. Pierre-VanArtsen is a member of the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy and on the board of directors for the Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE).

“I have been amazed by the heartfelt generosity found here in Southwest Michigan,” said Pierre-VanArtsen. “Local philanthropy has the power to not only uplift, but also to fortify our community for generations to come. The simple act of giving one’s time or financial resources positively impacts our neighbors’ lives in ways that we could never imagine.”

“Soroya’s experience with, and heart for, community development, championing services for underserved communities, and operational leadership has prepared her well to lead the Spectrum Health Lakeland Foundation,” said Loren B. Hamel, MD, president, Spectrum Health Lakeland. “We look forward to welcoming her to the Lakeland leadership team and are confident that she will continue to strengthen our organization’s commitment to philanthropy.”

For more than 30 years, the foundation has worked with individual donors, families, corporations, and area foundations to generate resources through grants, charitable donations, and bequests, which provide new equipment, expansion and renovation of hospital facilities, and support for quality health care services in Southwest Michigan.
