Spectrum Health Launches Mobile Mammography Unit

“Clinic on Wheels” Brings Breast Screening to More Community Residents

Spectrum Health Betty Ford Breast Care Services today unveiled its new mobile mammography unit. It will bring state-of-the-art digital breast screening to residents throughout West Michigan.

“Spectrum Health is pleased to offer the convenience of mammography screening in a mobile unit,” said Thomas Getz, MD, medical director, Betty Ford Breast Care Services. “By making this service more available to women, we hope they take advantage of this important test in detecting breast cancer.”

The unit will travel throughout the community to serve a variety of patient populations, including those that may not have access to mammogram screening. The mobile unit will also travel to local companies who want to offer screenings on-site for employees as well as physician offices who want to make the service more convenient for patients.

The full-service, 40-foot mammography clinic on wheels offers patients the same high-quality service offered at any of Spectrum Health’s mammography screening sites. The same staff and physicians are providing the care. Patients will be welcomed to a registration and waiting area, private dressing rooms and the latest digital mammography equipment.

To schedule a screening mammogram, call 616.267.2626 or 877.495.2626 (toll free). The unit will be at West Pavilion:

  • Friday, May 21 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Friday, May 28 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

In addition to the mobile mammography unit, Spectrum Health offers six convenient locations throughout Grand Rapids for a screening mammogram.

Spectrum Health’s Comprehensive Breast Care Program is the only program in West Michigan to receive the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers accreditation. In addition, Spectrum Health’s Betty Ford Diagnostic Breast Center at the Lemmen-Holton Cancer Pavilion is the only facility in Grand Rapids designated as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR).
