Spectrum Health Medical Group Expands Neuro Team

The Spectrum Health Medical Group continues to develop its neurology division through the addition of two neuro specialists.

Archit C. Bhatt, MD, MPH, medical director for stroke, and Ahmed O. Shatila, MD, a neuro-hospitalist, joined the organization in August.

“Our vision is to provide top quality neurological services, adding to our store of medical knowledge as an organization,” said James M. Tucci, MD, MMM, president, Spectrum Health Medical Group.  “Dr. Bhatt and Dr. Shatila are tremendous assets to our neurology division and will provide important leadership as we continue to grow our program.”

Both Dr. Bhatt and Dr. Shatila practice at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital.

Dr. Bhatt is the hospital’s first fellowship trained vascular neurologist, specializing in stroke diagnosis and treatment. He received his medical degree from Smt. NHL Medical College in Ahmedabad, India and his master’s degree in public health from Tulane School of Public Health in New Orleans. He completed his residency in internal medicine at St. Barnabas Hospital in New York, and his residency in neurology and fellowship in vascular neurology at Sparrow Hospital/Michigan State University in Lansing, Michigan. He is board certified in internal medicine and neurology.

Dr. Bhatt is also a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and American Heart Association (Stroke Council).

As a neuro-hospitalist, Dr. Shatila provides impatient neurologic care at Butterworth Hospital. He received his undergraduate and medical degrees from Wayne State University in Detroit. While in Detroit, he completed his residency in neurology and fellowship in neurophysiology at Wayne State University/Detroit Medical Center.
