Spectrum Health Names Academic VP to Guide Medical Education

Lori Schuh, MD, FAAN, has been named Spectrum Health’s new vice president of academic affairs.

“We are very pleased to have Dr. Schuh here to provide leadership in medical education at Spectrum Health,” said Matthew G. Van Vranken, executive vice president, Spectrum Health Delivery System. “She will play a vital role in ensuring Spectrum Health’s compliance with the goals and standards for medical education as set forth by national accrediting and regulatory bodies. Dr. Schuh will also guide the further development of resources for the education of medical students, residents and fellows.”

Dr. Schuh, a neurologist, will practice as a member of Spectrum Health Medical Group’s neurosciences department. Her new office is located at 25 Michigan Street NE, Suite 6100, Grand Rapids.

I have been impressed by the commitment of Spectrum Health providers, employees and  leadership to graduate, undergraduate, nursing and allied health professional education,” said Dr. Schuh. “I look forward to working with health educators at Spectrum Health to further develop our programs to attract the best trainees in the region.”

Dr. Schuh has 16 years of clinical and medical education experience at Henry Ford Health System. She earned her medical degree at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Jersey and completed her residency in neurology at the University of Virginia Medical Center. Dr. Schuh is a Fellow in the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) and a recipient of the Parker J. Palmer Courage to Teach Award.

Spectrum Health is a not-for-profit health system, based in West Michigan, offering a full continuum of care through the Spectrum Health Hospital Group, which is comprised of nine hospitals including Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital; 130 ambulatory and service sites; 975 advanced practice providers and employed physicians including members of the Spectrum Health Medical Group and West Michigan Heart physician groups; and Priority Health, a health plan.
