Spectrum Health Names Chief Academic Officer

Spectrum Health has named Anthony Senagore, MD, MBA, MS, FACS, FASCRS, to the new position of vice president, chief academic officer, Spectrum Health. He begins his new role immediately.

Dr. Senagore will serve as the academic leader of a growing network including Spectrum Health System, Spectrum Health Hospital Group, Spectrum Health Medical Group, Michigan Medical, P.C., the Spectrum Health-Michigan State University College of Human Medicine Alliance, Grand Valley State University and the Van Andel Research Institute. He will be responsible for guiding relationships in undergraduate medical education, graduate medical education, ancillary health care professional education and medical research programs.

Dr. Senagore joined Spectrum Health in 2006 as vice president of research and medical education.  He will continue to lead Spectrum Health’s research efforts.  Throughout his career, Dr. Senagore has been active in several professional associations, most recently serving as President of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. He has authored more than 130 peer-reviewed articles and has been a guest lecturer both nationally and abroad.

Dr. Senagore is a professor of surgery at Michigan State University and a colon and rectal surgeon for mmpc. He earned his medical degree from Michigan State University and completed his residency in general surgery at the Butterworth Hospital/MSU program in Grand Rapids. Dr. Senagore then completed a research fellowship and colon and rectal surgery residency at Ferguson Hospital. He also earned Master of Science degree in physiology from MSU and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix, San Francisco campus.
