Spectrum Health Opens Convenient Care Walk-in Clinic in Ionia

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., March 16, 2017 – No doctor? No appointment?  No problem.

Spectrum Health Pennock has opened a Convenient Care Walk-in Clinic where people who feel ill or have minor injuries–but don’t require emergency care–can get immediate attention without an appointment.

The Convenient Care Walk-In Clinic is located within the Spectrum Health Integrated Care Campus at 2776 S State Road in Ionia, near the Ionia Meijer shopping center.

The clinic will initially be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a plan to expand weekday hours and add Saturday hours this summer.

The new Convenient Care Walk-In Clinic is designed to assist existing patients, new patients and visiting patients, regardless of insurance status and primary care provider.  The clinic will provide follow-up back to each patient’s primary care physician if there is one, or offer the opportunity to receive primary care services from Spectrum Health if a patient has no primary physician.

“Spectrum Health and Spectrum Health Medical Group has implemented both Urgent Care and Convenient Care walk-in clinics when developing integrated care facilities where patients can get multiple services in one location,” said Sheryl Lewis Blake, Spectrum Health Pennock president. “This is the fourth Spectrum Health Convenient Care clinic to be implemented, joining locations in Greenville, Ludington and Newaygo.”

“Our goal is to identify and meet our community’s health needs, and access to medical care is at the top of that list. Convenient Care is one of the primary initiatives to address convenient access to care for patients in Ionia and Barry counties and beyond.”

Lewis Blake added that the Ionia walk-In clinic will improve access in three significant ways:

  • Adding another experienced medical provider to Spectrum Health Medical Group and the hospital’s medical staff.
  • Providing an office where people can get immediate medical care without an appointment for low acuity health needs but with laboratory and medical imaging services located within the same integrated care campus facility if needed.
  • Seeing all patients, regardless of their primary care provider or insurance status, including visitors and tourists.

The Convenient Care Walk-In Clinic shares an office location with one of Spectrum Health Pennock’s family medicine practices, which relocated to the Ionia Integrated Care Campus in June 2016 when the facility opened.  Blake Geschke, PA-C, is the lead Convenient Care provider. Geschke earned his bachelor’s degree in health fitness in preventive and rehabilitative studies from Central Michigan University, and his master’s degree in physician assistant studies from Grand Valley State University. The Ionia Convenient Care Walk-in Clinic and Family Medicine practice will welcome Sara Casey, FNP, in June to expand capacity for patients.

The family medicine care team of Donald Gingerich, DO, Richard Mason, MD, Geschke, and Christina Reisinger, FNP, also sees scheduled primary care patients in the ICC facility, and is accepting new patients.

“We were very fortunate to attract these skilled physicians and advanced practice providers to join us as providers at the walk-in clinic,” announced David Ottenbaker, MD, associate chief medical officer, regions, Spectrum Health Medical Group.

“The Convenient Care Walk-in Clinic in Ionia joins the Spectrum Health Pennock Urgent Care facility in Hastings to provide multiple options for walk-in services throughout the Pennock primary service area.”
