Spectrum Health Presents Northern Lights Health and Human Services Award to Sheri Thompson
BIG RAPIDS & REED CITY, Mich., May 30, 2017 – Spectrum Health is proud to honor Sheri Thompson with the 2017 Northern Lights Health and Human Services Award.
The Northern Lights awards are given by the Spectrum Health Foundation Big Rapids and Reed City Hospitals each year to recognize the contributions of outstanding individuals, groups or programs making a difference in our region.
Sheri Thompson is a quiet but extremely effective leader. She is often the behind the scenes mover and shaker and several organizations benefit from her knowledge and expertise.
Sheri is actively involved and sits on a number of boards in our area. She is the vice president of the Mecosta-Osceola Intermediate School District (MOISD) Board of Education, and has served for many years on the Michigan Works! West Central Workforce Development Board, previously as its co-chair. She is the vice chair of the Osceola County Community Foundation (OCCF), chairs the OCCF Scholarship Committee and is also an appointee to the State of Michigan Board of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery.
Actively involved in her church, Sheri previously served many years as its worship chair, and has rung in the church bell choir for 25 years. Sheri currently serves on the board of directors of the Youth Attention Center.
Sheri serves on the Spectrum Health Foundation board of directors as well as on their executive committee. She also is a member of the Hospital Board of Trustees executive committee, and sits on the quality, safety and community health subcommittee.
As co-chair, Sheri was an extremely valuable member of the capital campaign cabinet that helped to bring the Susan P. Wheatlake Regional Cancer Center to the region. She believes strongly in the value of expert local health care.
“Sheri does so much to help make a difference in our community and to make it a better place to live, work and play,” said Dee VanHorn, board chair of the Spectrum Health Foundation Big Rapids and Reed City Hospitals. “She makes a difference in our community and makes positive changes. Sheri has been a mentor to many and an excellent ambassador representing our community. She is a shining example of what being a good servant represents.”
