Spectrum Health Receives Governor’s Award of Excellence

Spectrum Health has received top honors from the state for the quality of its service to its patients and community.

The “Governor’s Recognition of Excellence” honors the top performing hospitals in Michigan. This was the first time Governor Jennifer Granholm and Michigan’s Medicare Quality Improvement Organization (MPRO) recognized the top performing hospitals in each clinical area. Only 18 hospitals received this award, including Spectrum Health Grand Rapids, Spectrum Health Reed City Hospital and Spectrum Health United Memorial United Hospital.

“These award recipients are committed to providing Michigan citizens with high quality health care,” said Granholm. The annual MPRO Governor’s award honors “extraordinary” hospitals that are active in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives for adult patient care.

“This really reflects the dedication of our physicians and our staff in ensuring high quality,” said John J. Byrnes, M.D., senior vice president, system quality, Spectrum Health. “Being ranked among the best in the state is gratifying. Our goal remains to provide the best in quality to our patients.”
