Spectrum Health Reed City Campus Skilled Nursing Facility Wins Award of Excellence

The skilled nursing facility at Spectrum Health Reed City Campus has received MPRO’s, Michigan’s quality improvement organization (QIO), prestigious 2006 Michigan Award of Excellence for Improving Care in the Nursing Home Setting. Spectrum Health was one of 31 nursing homes to have received the accolade for working to improve the quality and safety of care in four out of four possible categories.

This marks the first year that MPRO has honored nursing homes statewide that are actively engaged in quality improvement initiatives. Recipients of the Michigan Award of Excellence showed notable improvement in quality measures designated as national health care priorities by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

The skilled nursing facility established a multidisciplinary team to spearhead improvement using proven, evidence-based practices to spur better outcomes.

“As Michigan’s QIO, MPRO is privileged to recognize nursing homes such as Reed City Campus that are embracing quality improvement initiatives,” said Debra Moss, MD, MBA, president and CEO of MPRO. Dr. Moss added “The Michigan Award of Excellence is a seal of quality that denotes a commitment to excellence and the delivery of high quality care.”

“Our staff worked as a team to set targets and develop strategies to accelerate care to achieve notable improvement in resident care and satisfaction. Together, we are demonstrating that the skilled nursing facility of Spectrum Health is continuously working to improve the care we deliver to our residents. Our efforts have been enhanced through our collaborations with MPRO and we are proud to be a recipient of this distinguished honor,” said Connie Hervey, administrator of skilled nursing and vice president of inpatient services for Spectrum Health Reed City Campus.

Reed City Campus skilled nursing facility has earned the privilege of being only one of six Eden AlternativeTM facilities in the state of Michigan with a ten-out-of-ten-star rating for implementing the Eden care philosophy and practice.
